Real-time Explosion (Houdini & Unreal 4 Engine)

  • Simulated clouds and created a texture atlas in Houdini, which were implemented in Cascade particle system (UE4)
  • Rock generator digital asset which enables lots of variety in rock-like shapes 
  • Added radial force physics script in UE4.

​This Unreal 4 real-time movie was created as an atmosphere practice which took 2 weekends.
​
My main focus was to create a mysterious atmosphere in 3D, while maintaining performance budget.
I divided the environment into modular building blocks and ensured the lightmaps would not give any artifacts during light baking. Volumetric lighting, custom fog & light shaft shaders in combination with GPU Cascade dust particles contributed to the mood.
